Brand therapy

What I’ve found over the years is that I have a particular gift for seeing through the noise and identifying the core elements that matter the most. In my career, I apply this to strategy, communication, and design.

What I enjoy most is helping leaders become better leaders through deep introspection. Therapy is a good analogy. When a person sees a therapist, they are able to gain insight into hidden areas of consciousness that, once understood, unlock doors of growth. Similarly, I take executives through a process of better understanding their own organizations, and identifying strategic priorities.

A fresh and honest perspective: Why you need an outside collaborator

Jeff Bezos requires an empty chair at his meetings at Amazon. Why? Because it represents the voice of the customer. A major obstacle in most organizations is that the people in them are too close to it. They lose perspective. They’re caught up in the day-to-day demands.

And this isn’t just about your customers. As they say, it’s lonely at the top. When an executive is surrounded only by people on the payroll, there are limits to what can be discussed and how. Having an outside party can help people say what needs to be said or explore what needs to be explored.

On the personal side

I’m a proud father of two kiddos. I have a Masters in Political Science and have travelled around the country discussing economic policy and early American history—yes, pretty weird for a creative marketing type.

I am a musician. At any given time, you may find me vibing on The Shins, Radiohead, Vampire Weekend, Copeland or old jazz records.

My most recent music project was recorded and mixed in my home and lives under the name Post Ephemera on Spotify, Apple Music, or wherever you get your tunes. Years ago, I was in a band called Jack in the Pulpit. Favorite memories include performing with MuteMath, recording an album at the legendary Cherokee Studios, and getting fired by Beyoncé’s producer when I shared the right idea at the wrong time. Lessons learned.

I have the heart of a creative and the mind of a strategist, and I love putting those together in service to great companies and causes.

If you know what you want to do and you do it, that’s the work of a craftsman. If you begin with a question and use it to guide an adventure of discovery, that’s the work of an artist.
